Baybeats Festival Instagram Filters

I developed two interactive Instagram filters for the Baybeats Festival, an annual indie rock and alternative music festival at Esplanade.

About the project

The primary goal of developing these Instagram filters for the Baybeats Festival is to enhance audience engagement and interaction on social media by leveraging augmented reality to create engaging, thematic content. By incorporating key visuals and music-related trivia into the filters, we aim to promote the festival, encourage greater attendance, and facilitate a memorable social sharing experience that highlights the essence of indie and alternative music.

2020: Trivia Filter

Purpose
Test and engage Baybeats fans’ knowledge about indie and alternative music.

Functionality
Users activate the filter on Baybeats’ Instagram channel, start the trivia by pressing the record button, and answer as many questions as possible within 30 seconds by tilting their heads to choose between two answers.

Technology
Developed using Spark AR’s native JavaScript and Spark AR Studio, incorporating motion detection to record users’ head movements as inputs for answering trivia questions.

2021: Animated Visuals Filter

Purpose
Visually captivate users by augmenting the key visual of the Baybeats Festival with interactive elements.

Functionality
Users activate the filter on Baybeats’ Instagram channel and point their phone cameras at any of the festival’s key visual around Esplanade. An animated version of the key visual then plays on their screens.

Technology
Created using the patch editor in Spark AR Studio, this filter enhances static images with dynamic, animated overlays, engaging users with motion graphics that bring festival artwork to life.

What was achieved in this project

These filters created a fun and interactive way for fans to connect with the Baybeats Festival, driving higher engagement on Instagram and spreading awareness about the event through shared experiences and user-generated content.
