About the project

Screamo is an interactive typography that reacts to sound. The generative type has been programmed in Processing to react to the volume of the input it receives. Having the courage to interact with this type is crucial to the amount of distortion that is created. Loud noises draw attention, and to change it’s form, users will become the center of attention.

The idea of creating screamo has been sparked by what Henri Matisse once said – “Creativity takes courage”. An individual is required to take a certain amount of risks in order to be creative, and fear of taking risks is often the cause that impedes on the process of creative play. Through the act of interacting with this type, i wish to encourage users to be fearless by changing the form of the type.

The base font used for this is Helvetica Neue Roman. The reason for the font choice is due to the neutral nature of the font and to show that change is possible with the courage to do so. The more courage you have, the bigger the change will be. By interacting with the type, Helvetica Neue will no longer be as neutral as it used to be.
